"I'm Just A Jock Who Likes to Shower With Little Boys."

...WHAT?!

First I would like to extend my apologies for my absence over the last week or so, as I have been battling a cold and am working hard to release some new material after Thanksgiving break. But, in light of the Jerry SanDeutschsky scandal at Pen15 State, I just had to chime back in.

Before I rip this guy a new one, let's look at a timeline of events during Sandusky's tenor at PSU:

1969: Sandusky is hired at Penn State

1977: Sandusky founds The Second Mile Charity foundation for boys-- think he had an alterior motive?

1980's: Helped PSU win a couple titles-- blah, blah no one cares

1994-98: Three cases of Sandusky sexually assaulting 8-10 year old boys are reported

1999: Sandusky retires

Here's where I'll stop the timeline for a second. By 1999, Sandusky had retired as a coach from Penn State, yet the staff and campus police still let him maintain an active role with the team. One year later (in 2000), a janitor apparently spotted Sandusky going down on a 10-11 year old kid in the showers, but for whatever the reason may be, he is still hanging around after that.

The icing on the cake comes in 2002, when Ginger Assistant -- check that, Graduate Assistant --  Mike McQueary walked in on Sandusky performing anal sex on a young boy. Call me nuts, but I just can't help but think that one's moral values would kick in at this time, and, at the very least, call out, "Hey, Jerr, buddy, maybeeee you shouldn't be doing that." Rather than stepping in, McQueary went and told his dad-- What are you, a 5-year-old?

Finally the news gets brought to Joe Pa, who brings the incident to the Athletic Director and so on.

But this was 9 years ago now. How in the world did the Penn State allow this monster to continue to be a presence at practice and around the campus? Not only that, in 2007,  Sandusky began to bring around one of the apparent victims, even though he had been banned from bringing children on campus-- yeah, they really stuck it to him...

Sandusky was arrested on November 5, and spoke out for the first time yesterday evening in an interview with Sports Reporter, Bob Costas. In the interview, Sandusky denied all allegations of sexual actions with young boys as his attorney explained that he is "just your typical, fun-spirited jock," -- oh yeah sure, just your classic case of a 60-year-old jock who likes to shower with young boys-- #VintageSandusky. In defense of the 40 criminal accounts against him, Sandusky replied,

"I have horsed around with kids. I -- I have showered after workouts. I have hugged them and I have touched their leg. Without intent of sexual contact..."
good luck, bro.

Final Fraze
Other than the overall well-being of the victims, the one thing about this Penn State scandal that just really picks at me is that no one took the initiative to step in directly and handle the situation. Now, I can understand that this must have been an extremely delicate situation for Joe Pa and the staff to handle, as Sandusky was one of their loyal associates for years. And I get that it would be difficult to turn in a trusted friend for allegations that would undeniably ruin his life. With that said, if you witness or have knowledge of a 60-year-old man that has been sexually assaulting young boys, it is your moral duty to step in and do something about it. It is an absolute shame that a beloved and well-respected coach like Joe Paterno had to be cut loose on what was likely to be the final season of his 44-year tenor at Penn State; however, in this situation, merely telling your superior is not enough.

  1. I hate that my boy JOE PA is getting hated on so much for this. The school's protocol is to go to your superior, which he did and the president is the one who sucks and shoulda called the fuzz.

  2. True. But at the same time, if this stuff was going on to the the extent that it was and people knew about it... you gotta make sure it gets taken care of.
